Banita Sandhu is the latest name to enter the casting buzz around Akshay Kumar’s Samuk. The actor is reportedly part of the much-awaited sci-fi action-survival thriller, with sources telling us that she has a key role in the Kanishk Varma directorial, a role of a British-born Indian environmentalist who finds herself on a mission she was never meant to be a part of.
Produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah under Sunshine Pictures and co-produced by Aashin A. Shah, Samuk is currently being shot in London. The film brings Akshay Kumar and Shah together after 13 years and is being mounted on a large scale for theatrical audiences.
Sandhu, who has worked across Hindi and international projects, brings an interesting international connect to the ensemble. She made her debut with October and went on to feature in Sardar Udham, and more recently in Main Vaapas Aaunga besides appearing in the international series Bridgerton. Samuk could now see the actor take on another big-screen outing, although details about her character are being kept guarded.
Known for straddling Indian and international projects, Sandhu’s appealing screen presence will add a new dimension to the film’s increasingly eclectic ensemble. Sources suggest her role is an important one within the story, but the makers are keeping individual character details closely guarded. The casting rollout has revealed names while leaving the intriguing question of what each actor plays open, as they want to protect the world of the film and its plot at all costs. The enviable ensemble reportedly comprises Akshay Kumar, Rukmini Maitra, Vineet Kumar Singh, Rajat Kapoor, Swanand Kirkire among others.
Sandhu’s reported casting adds to the frenzy around Samuk’s already unconventional ensemble. Evident from its casting moves, the film is bringing together performers from very different worlds and keeping audiences guessing about how they fit into its mysterious sci-fi universe.
